THE BIG BEST BLITZ FOR LAUREN 2019

Joint captains Ella-Beth Rooney and Niamh McGivern with Lauren Fitzgerald and Rory Best

What a fantastic day in Pairc Esler for the continuing fundraising for Lauren Fitzgerald.
It was also a fantastic day for Clonduff U14 Ladies who were one of 30 teams who participated in a Sevens tournament organised specifically for Lauren’s Adventures involving Year 10 students and under.
The Yellas played Glenn, Our Lady’s School, Saval and St Paul’s in the group stage and beat them all playing brilliantly to win the group; in the quarter finals they played a very strong Sacred Heart team but the Yellas came out on top by 4 points. They then beat Silverbridge in the semi-final to set up a nail-biting final with St Paul’s. Nerves were beginning to show when St Paul’s went into a 4-point lead, but the Clonduff girls never gave up and came back to win by 3 points.
A massive display of team-work and effort was shown by each girl on the field from start to finish. Add to this their fantastic attitude throughout the blitz made them deserving winners, lifting the cup from Lauren herself and Rory Best the Ireland Rugby captain who also threw in the ball at the start of the final.
A fantastic day and a massive well done to all especially the organisers.
