ACORN TO MIGHTY OAK – FIONNUALA CARR
Mighty oaks from little acorns grow….
Having represented Down at senior level for 22years, Fionnuala is calling time on a hugely successful career in the red and black.
Individual accolades include 4 Soaring Stars (2010, 2011, 2014, 2018), Ulster Player of the Year(2019), numerous County Player of the Year Awards, Irish News and Gaelic Life All Stars.
She has All Ireland, Ulster and National League medals and has represented Ulster at Provincial level in the Gael Linn – hopefully there’s nothing missed! and can be regarded as undoubtedly one of Down and Ulster’s greatest ever Camogie players. She also played Ladies Gaelic for her beloved Clonduff and won a County Championship!
She has been, and continues to be, a role model for her teammates and young camogs and it was a fitting tribute that she bowed out at County level as captain of a winning All Ireland Intermediate team.
Thankfully those amber and navy boots aren’t going anywhere yet!
Thank you for the memories Fionnuala!
