BRIAN McGREEVY U8 MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT 2018

There was a great buzz on Saturday morning 9th June in Clonduff Park as many teams gathered in the glorious sunshine to participate in the annual U8 Brian McGreevy Tournament. In what can only be described as a festival of football, 25 teams from Down, Armagh and Louth converged on Clonduff Park and gave performances of great skill and determination way beyond their age. Despite tightly contested games, there were six deserving finalists as Clonduff and Burren went head to head in the Cup final, Glen Emmets faced Warrenpoint in the Shield final while Mayobridge took on Ballyholland in the Plate final. All three finals had spectators biting their finger nails as each match was hard fought right to the final whistle. Heartiest Congratulations to our three winners: Burren, Glen Emmets and Ballyholland. Before the presentation of trophies, Paudie Matthews (Clonduff Chairman) congratulated the mentors on the standard of football played and thanked all who had participated and those involved in the organising. Jimmie Cousins also said a few words, reflecting on the origins of the Brian McGreevy Tournament and thanked every club for their continued support.
Clonduff Club sincerely thank the participating clubs, the co-ordinators of the tournament, their Young Volunteers, Goretta, Noleen and Shane in the Shop, Geraldine in the Burger Bar and the parents who provided the sandwiches – all of which made today a huge success!
