Clonduff led from the start and ran into a 5 point lead but Carryduff came thundering back but they couldn’t get closer than 3 points by half time. Clonduff had a player yellow carded almost on the half-time whistle; the score was Clonduff 1-8 Carryduff 2-2. This was a fabulous game of football and so it continued through the second half but the city-siders couldn’t make their extra player-advantage count to any great extent though they did reduce the deficit to 1 point at one stage. Clonduff replied with a great goal from a free and so it was nip and tuck for the rest of the

Joy knows no bounds!

game. Approaching fulltime Clonduff were leading by 2 point – a dangerous lead – when Carryduff were awarded a close in free. Referee had informed the free-taker this was the last kick of the game – another player intervened but the resultant effort didn’t count. Final Score Clonduff 2-10 Carryduff 3-4.

This was a well-deserved victory for the Clonduff girls and the jubilant scenes following the final whistle were a joy to behold. And did you hear about the parents that were so excited, that after having their photo taken with their daughter they drove away and left their wee girls behind in Dromara! Remembered about her 5/6 miles up the road!
Following the presentation of medals to Carryduff, the ‘Player of the Match’ (chosen by Match Officials) was deemed to be, and rightly so, Clonduff’s midfielder Therese Cowan. It was then the presentation of trophy and gold medals to joint captains Anna-Rose and Grace and celebrations really began in earnest.
Following the family photos it was then back to Clonduff Club, via a victory parade around Hilltown Square, for the celebratory meal and the presentation of the medals. A couple of speeches thanking all involved – players, mentors, sponsors, the club itself and the wonderful behind-the-scenes volunteers and a special word of thanks for the Club’s merchandiser who organised the new tops in just over a week!
A great wee evening was had by all! and it’s difficult to know who enjoyed it more – the players, the management, the parents or the Club personnel!
