CLONDUFF BOYS DO THE DOUBLE AT GARY MURRAY TOURNAMENT 2022

The Clonduff boys showed excellent skills and team work to clinch the Cup and Plate Competitions on the full return of the long-running Gary Murray Tournament. The Gaels beat St John’s Belfast in the Cup Final and the Ógs also beat their counterparts in the Plate Final. Burren Defeated Ardboe in the Shield Final.
The weather was very much in favour on Saturday 21st May which saw teams from Down, Armagh, Tyrone and Belfast converge on Clonduff Park for the U11.5 age group tournament which has been running continuously since 1976 except for 2020 and 2021 which was curtailed due to Covid though an internal competition was organised.
The Lily Murray Trophy for the Player of the Tournament was awarded to Ethan Harty from Burren.
History was made when for the first time ever there was a ‘Champions League Style’ ending to one of the Cup semi finals – St John’s and Mayobridge couldn’t be separated even after two periods of extra time – the game went to penalties which the Belfast side won to face Clonduff in the final.
Many thanks to all who helped in organising and running the tournament especially Youth Officer Mark Devlin, the Murray Family, the referees, the players and the local parents who supplied and served the tea/coffee and sandwiches.
