CLONDUFF POC FADA 2017

What better way to spend a couple of hours on a July evening! Over 30 men, women, boys and girls assembled at the foot of the Hen Mountain on Saturday 22nd July. Despite a heavy shower about an hour previously conditions were almost perfect except for the midges which were out in force – a number of the competitors were covered in welts by the end of the event.
There was a great carnival atmosphere and with some youngsters and their parents doing it for the first time – they all enjoyed it very much despite the midges and are already looking forward to next year.
The view from the top is breath-taking though some of the little legs, having made it to the foot of the first tor decided to return the way they went up!
John Murphy retained his title (for the umpteenth time) and Kitty Fegan retain the Ladies title for the third year in a row. However there were new names for both the U16 Boys and U16 Girls title with Aaron Norris claiming the Boys’ title and Tiarna Savage winning the Girls’ title.
Many thanks to Damien Farnon for setting out the course – a job he has done every year since the Clonduff Poc Fada began in 2007 and for presenting the trophies and thanks to Francis Quinn who organised the 2017 event – previously this event was run in conjunction with Boley Fair but as there has been no local festival for the past two years Francis took the initiative to organise it.
