CLONDUFF SOARING STARS 2011

Clonduff and Down senior players Orla Maginn and Fionnuala Carr received their ‘Soaring Star’ awards at a glamorous function in City West Hotel, Dublin on Saturday night 5th November 2011. Soaring Stars are awarded by Camogie Association of Ireland to players who play for their County at Junior and Intermediate Level, (Down play at Junior) – they reached the All Ireland Junior Final, agonisingly losing out to Waterford by a single point, Down were always expecting a couple of awards and were delighted when four came to the Mourne County and even more so when two came to Clonduff – Catherine McGourty (Ballycran) and Niamh Mallon (Portaferry) were the other recipients.
This is a terrific personal achievement for both girls, Fionnuala having received her second award and being named in the centre half back position and Orla for rightful acknowledgement of an outstanding year for both Club and County, in the corner back position. However it is also great recognition for the Clonduff Club and Community, the Club are extremely proud of the two players and their success.
A large contingent of Clonduff supporters accompanied Orla and Fionnuala to the City West Hotel to help them celebrate their amazing achievement.
Our two Soaring Stars are pictured with Brian Cody (Kilkenny Hurling Manager) and Joan O’Flynn (President Camogie Association) – don’t the girls scrub up well!
