CLONDUFF U15 LGFA MAKE HISTORY IN REACHING DIV 1 FEILE FINAL 2023
Our U15 Ladies had an almost perfect day, but not quite, at the County Feile in Liatriom on Bank Holiday Monday 1st May. 30 girls comprising eligible members of the U16 team along with older members of the U14 team gelled superbly as a team with every girl getting lots of game time.
In the group games they won all six of their games defeating Aghaderg, RGU, Saval, Liatroim, Annaclone and Burren to top their group and set up a semi final meeting with Carryduff. This was a very hard-fought encounter with Clonduff just emerging winners by a single point to reach the final against Burren. This was never going to be an easy game despite having beaten Burren by a single point in the group games. And so it proved to be – they were all square at the break (0-3 apiece). Burren played with the advantage of a strong breeze in the second half and went 5 points up – the the Clonduff girls never gave up and brought it back to 2 points and camped for the final couple of minutes in the Burren half but that goal just wouldn’t open up for them. Final score Burren 1-4 Clonduff 0-5. We wish Burren all the best in the All Ireland series!
We are extremely proud of the the efforts and endeavours of the girls and the mentors – you did yourselves, your club and families mighty proud! 22 of these girls were on the Div 1 winning Feile team 48 hours earlier!
Get well soon to Sophie Fitzpatrick who sustained a wrist injury and taken to hospital in the semi final – hope it’s not long until we have you back fighting fit again Sophie.
