CUMANN na mBUNSCOIL FESTIVAL OF HANDBALL 2022

Ulster Primary Schools Handball Champions – Sean Óg wearing white shorts

Saturday’s (Apr 2) All Ireland Schools Handball Festival was held in Kingscourt, Cavan the best handball in all four provinces was showcased.

Sean Og Cowan (aptly stripped out in yellow) met the challenge with pride and enthusiasm.
The U13 singles boys games were played up to 15 points in court 3 where Sean Óg took on lads from Kilkenny (Leinster), Galway (Connacht) and Kerry (Munster) and as you would expect from Provincial Champions the games were tight and hotly contested.

Primary Schools Handball Champions for the four provinces

All four boys were presented with matching medals and a bag of goodies by the President of Cumann na mBunscoil where he praised the standard of handball on display. The President added it was a credit to the players’ schools, handball clubs, counties and provinces. He went on to emphasise how handball has always complemented the other codes in the GAA especially hurling/camogie and football where records will show how national success in these other codes often comes from success from perfecting the small ball skills in handball. He wished the children well in their years ahead and emphasised how delighted all were to be back playing after two years of lockdown.

Sean Og would like to acknowledge his current U13 handball club teammates Daniel Gribben, James Shields, James Morgan, Daithi Barber and P6 player Oisin McConville, all who play great internal competitive games week in, week out together.
Well done Sean Og 👏👏
