DANIEL ANDRE U10 MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT 2019

Waiting for the Presentations

Clonduff saw it all on Saturday morning 29th June for the eighth Annual Daniel Andre U10 Tournament – 28 teams providing a fantastic feast of football, strong sunshine, hail stones, thunder, lightening and more sunshine for the finals!
A number of clubs were able to field three teams – Gaels, Ógs and Stars, Fifteen Gaels teams contested the Cup and Shield and the 13 Ógs and Stars teams contested the Plate and the Plaque. Downpatrick Ógs and Ballyholland Ógs contested the Plaque final with Downpatrick picking up the honours; Carryduff Ógs beat Magherafelt Rossa Ógs in the Plate Final; Glen Emmets got the better of Shamrocks in the Shield Final; Clonduff, for the first time in the 8-year history of the Tournament just about pipped Magherafelt Rossa Gaels in a tight exciting Cup Final.

Before the presentations, Daniel’s father Luigi thanked all the teams for continuing to honour Daniel’s name in this great festival. Luigi, his wife Donna and daughter Kara and other family members then presented the medals and trophies.

Clonduff – Cup Winners for the first time!

Jimmie Cousins, speaking for Clonduff also thanked the Andre Family and all the teams for attending, the players for providing such entertaining football, the parents for the abundance of food for the lunch, the ladies who worked tirelessly in the kitchen, Luigi and Laureen in the Burger Bar, Goretta, Noleen and Shane (YV) in the shop; the organisers, the seven referees – three Young Volunteers two of whom were making their debuts as referees – Darragh McAlinden, Bryan Rice, Paudy Clancy (all YV), Liam McGreevy, Tom Close (Sen Footballers), Shane Quinn and Paul McConville; a raft of young lads who acted as ‘runners’ and score keepers – Conor and Tiernan McGrath, Cian and Charlie McConville, Brian McGreevy, Fionn Matthews, Eddie Clancy, Conor Ward and Cian Wilson and all those who tidied up after the event in preparation for a function later in the evening in the clubrooms.

All agreed that it was a wonderfully successful tournament once again and the erratic weather had little bearing on the outcomes. Well done and congratulations everyone!
