SCÓR SINSIR – IT HAS RETURNED IN 2022
The adult version of Scór activities at County level made a welcome return on Saturday 24th September 2022 in Mayobridge Community Centre. Pre-pandemic, a decision had been made to switch the timing of the adult and juvenile competitions; the juvenile version – Scór na nÓg – had taken place in March/April after a 2-year absence but the adults had to wait a little longer and unfortunately participation may have been hampered as many clubs are still engaged in on-field championships. A decision was, therefore, made to run a County Final with the Divisional Champions initially adjudged and the County Champions would be either the East Down or the South Down Champion (if appropriate) whichever achieved the higher adjudication.
Reigning County Scór na nÓg Solo Singing Champion, Cara Sloan from the Glasdrumman club got the evening under way with Amhrán na bhFian and Fear an Tí, Darren Rooney (Mayobridge) kept the programme moving along.
Following well over three hours of magnificent entertainment, the County Cultural Officer, Donal McNally, welcomed everyone and congratulated all who had taken part and the very high standard that participants had achieved in such a short space of time. He wanted it put on record his thanks to his hard-working committee and all those who had helped out in any way. County Chair John Devanney spoke of the importance of keeping our Culture alive and how much its resumption was welcomed.
Many thanks to Vivienne Mulcahy who represented Clonduff in Solo Singing – with a different timescale, we would be hoping for a return to pre-covid participation in keeping our culture alive and thriving.
