48th GARY MURRAY MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT
On Saturday 18th May 2024, Clonduff Park welcomed fifteen teams for the 48th Gary Murray Memorial Tournament.
The teams – Clonduff (who had two teams), Mayobridge, Ballyholland, Burren, Annaclone, Bredagh, Saval, Aughnaslafin, Rostrevor, Castlewellan (all Down), Killeavey, Dromintee (Armagh), Fr Rocks Cookstown and Dungannon Clarkes (Tyrone) – were divided into three groups, before progressing into the Plate, Shield and Cup knock-out stages.
The Plate final was closely contested, with Dungannon Clarkes defeating Clonduff.
Rostrevor emerged victorious in the Shield final against Dromintee.
In the Cup final, Cookstown Fr Rocks had the edge over Ballyholland and claimed the cup.
After the finals, Cathal Murray Jnr spoke to crowd about the high levels of talent on show and thanked all the teams for coming as well as thanking all of those involved in the organising and running of the day.
The trophies and medals were then presented to the finalists by the Murray family.
Special mementos were also presented to the referees – without whom we would not be able to play our national game.
The last trophy of the day was the presentation of the Lily Murray Memorial Cup for the Player of the Tournament – this went to Jake Mulligan from the victorious Cookstown team, and a worthy winner he was!
Many thanks to all of the volunteers from our club who helped out in the lead up to and on the day itself – your hard work is very much appreciated.
