The performance of the year came from our U14s in the final of the Championship shield on Thursday evening in Drumaness against a much fancied Bredagh team, and when the teams took the field and the huge crowd looked at the size of the Belfast team they feared for our girls, it was a very tough first half with Bredagh winning the physical battle but the girls defended heroically and stepped up their game in the second half, with five mins remaining Clonduff were one point down but the girls took the game by the scruff of the neck and finished up winning by 2 points. Final score was Clonduff 1-7 Bredagh 1-5
There were huge performances all over the pitch with the defence tackling and hassling like their lives depended on it. Erin Lively in goals was simply outstanding and young Eve Matthews was excellent at full back, Roisin McPolin played a real captain’s role and showed great skill and leadership to her young team mates.
The girls and their families returned to the Clonduff clubrooms for refreshments after the game and the mood was very happy, Clonduff Camogie Club chairperson and team mentor Guinevra McGilligan congratulated the girls on their magnificent performance.
A huge thank you to all the parents who came along and supported the girls and indeed on this occasion we do believe that the big Clonduff contingent really were the 16th player for the girls
