SOUTH DOWN U14 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS 2010

Congratulations to Clonduff U14s who won the South Down championship final. The team trained hard all year and deserved their win. It was a hard fought final with a late goal from Stephen McConville which turned out to be the decider. Both Stephen and Caolon McAvoy each scored 1-4 and these scores were backed with an excellent performance and it was great to see the boys who were joint captains lift the shield. The management were delighted with the victory which was a long time coming, but all were very proud of all the boys for their dedication and they would like to thank them for this. It was great to see that we had a whole panel with us which included three injured players, Conor Murray, Peter McAleavy and Owen Ward. A special word of thanks to all parents who attended and backed the team through the year and behalf of the team we would like to thank those who sponsored the boys; Sean McGreevy, Artie Noel and Roisin McConville, Paul O’Hare, Tooter, Sean Milligan, Vincent Devlin and Colm Fitzpatrick (Timoney’s ice cream). The season doesn’t end here though as we have an All county final to look forward to.
Team: Finn Campbell, Niall O’Hagan, Shane Milligan, Noel Grant, Ryan McCaul, Mark Devlin, Thomas Murnin, Stephen McConville, Caolan McAvoy, Charlie Carr, Padraig Harper, Darragh Downey, Niall O’Hare, Mark Bradley, Darragh O’Hanlon, Darragh McPolin, James McGreevy, Patrick Gribben, Jack Walsh, Pearce Murnin, Conor Lowry.
The new South Down Champions were entertained to a meal in the Clubrooms on their return where Chairman Brian McGreevy and a large crowd of Club officials, parents and supporters were there to greet them. Brian made a short congratulatory speech; Aidan Brown replied on behalf of the management team (himself, Sean Fearon and Harry Brown) and thanked all those who had sponsored the team; joint team captains Stephen McConville and Caolan McAvoy thanked their managers, parents and the club and spoke of how worthwhile the hard hours on the training pitch were. In bringing the speeches to a conclusion, Brian reminded the boys that they now had to face the East Down Champions (Castlewellan) in order to secure the County title!
