The second Saturday in June is now synonymous with the congregation of U8 footballers in Clonduff Park for the annual McGreevy Tournament. Saturday 11th June 2011 started off as a dull morning but brightened up and stayed that way for the entire tournament when 20 teams from Down, Tyrone, Armagh and Louth put on some stunning displays belying the youth of the participants. At the end of the round-robin stage the two top teams from each group proceeded to the knock-out stages for the cup, the two middle teams from each group played off for the Shield with the remainder playing off for the Plate.
The eventual outcome was as follows:
Cup – Burren A defeated Clonduff A
Shield – Rostrevor A defeated Drumgath
Plate – Longstone defeated Clonduff B
A great day was had by all
Clonduff A team (Top) reached the Cup Final but were beaten by the narrowest of margins by Burren. Included in the team are includes: Joey O’Hare, James Brannigan, Ronan Matthews, Luke Fitzpatrick, Shane Close, Aaron Norris, Shea Morgan, Dan Rafferty, Aaron Gribben, Connor McComiskey, Connor Grant, Will Kelly and Patrick Cowan.
Clonduff B team (Bottom) reached the Plate Final but were beaten by Longstone. The team with mentors Paddy McConville and John Norris includes: Triplets, Aoife, Diarmuid and Orlaith McCusker, Paula McGarry, Rachael Norris, Abbie Fitzpatrick, Max Dursley, Oisin Logan, Donnagha Burns, Evie Lyness-Feenan, Aoife Trainor, Ellen McKay, Ella McCumiskey, Eoghan McAlinden, Evan McConville, Conor Greer, Orlaith Greer.
