Pairc Chluain Daimh was the venue on Saturday 7th June for the annual Brian McGreevy U8 Memorial football tournament. Twenty four teams from all over Ireland participated in a festival of fun and games in a very enjoyable atmosphere. The boys and girls displayed a high level of skill and commitment in a very sporting manner, cheered on by a crowd of enthusiastic parents and supporters in an atmosphere which did justice to the occasion. The top two teams in each section progressed to the cup, the next two in each section to the shield with the remainder playing in the plate.
The plate final was contested between Downpatrick and Saval with Downpatrick coming out on top. In the shield final Clann Eireann overcame Rostrevor after a second period of extra time. The cup final also went into extra time with Warrenpoint eventually overcoming a spirited Moy Tir na nOg.
Following the games Caroline Carvill (nee McGreevy) thanked all those who had taken part and all those who had helped on the day before presenting the trophies to the winners and runners-up.
