BRIAN McGREEVY U8 MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT 2014

A massive ‘Thank You’ to the legions of volunteers who turned out on Saturday 7th June to help with the running of the 9th Brian McGreevy Memorial Tournament. There were upwards on 340 children from 20 teams from Down, Armagh, Derry, Louth and Meath – Despite the rain at the start of the day, it cleared up after the first round of games and didn’t appear again until the finals – nothing like the weather that forecasted for today! Games began at 10.30 and the tournament was rounded up at 2.30 – everyone got lots of football and went home happy!
Whilst the day is all about the youngsters getting plenty of football, having good fun and making new friends. After the group stages, team went into a knock-out phase – the top two in each group competing for the Cup; the middle two for the Shield and the remainder for the Plate.
In the final shake-up Roche Emmets (Louth) defeated Rossa Óg (Magherafelt)
Newry Shamrocks defeated Clonduff in the Shield and
Shane O’Neills(Camloch) defeated Dundrum in the Plate
It was a great day and without the volunteers it just wouldn’t have happened – referees, car parkers, pitch co-ordinators, score keepers, administrators, PA, kitchen and shop attendees, burger & chip makers, parents who supplied the sandwiches and other eatables, cleaner-uppers both inside and outside, McGreevy Family, mentors of the 20 teams – that’s what Clonduff is about! Thank You All!
