29 teams, glorious sunshine, everybody a winner!
For the second week in a row Clonduff Park hosted almost 400 children plus a host of parents and families this week for the annual Daniel Andre U10 (P5/P6) Memorial Tournament with teams from Down, Armagh, Tyrone, Derry, Monaghan and Meath. It was a great spectacle of colour and skill and at the end of almost 100 games the results were as follows:
CUP FINAL – Bosco
SHIELD FINAL – Rossa Magherafelt beat Bredagh
Clonduff Ógs beat Clann Eireann Ógs – the ten Ógs teams took part in a separate competition for the Plate. The top two in each of the other four groups went into the Cup knockout stages; the remaining teams went into the Shield knockouts.
Many thanks to the Andre Family and extended family for supporting the tournament- Dad Luigi after working all day on the Burger Bar presented the Plate and medals to Clonduff Ógs and Clann Eireann Ógs; Mum Donna who had organised her extended family in the kitchen presented the Shield and medals to Rossa and Bredagh; Sister Kara presented the Cup and medals to Bosco and Ballyholland.
Many thanks to all the teams, mentors and families who attended; the Clonduff parents who provided the sandwiches; to our referees without whom the tournament couldn’t have taken place; those who acted as runners or umpires, set up pitches, cleaned up afterwards, Geraldine McGaw and Angela Cunningham who helped Luigi with the burgers; Goretta, Noleen and Shane Cairns who manned the very busy shop; Janine who was official photographer for the day, those who helped with refreshments or helped in any way including the organisers and administrators of the day’s event.
