2015 U16B Co Champions Clonduff 5-6 Kilcoo 1-8
Conditions underfoot were heavy in An Riocht on Saturday afternoon following the heavy morning’s rain but thankfully it had cleared up for the meeting of Clonduff with the next door neighbours in the Final of the U16B Championship. Kilcoo got off to the better start and had three points on the board before Clonduff got off the mark with a free and this was followed by a rasper of a goal by Ciara O’Reilly. Kilcoo responded quickly and won a penalty which was duly converted and then they got a point to go in front by two – but Clonduff camped in the Kilcoo half for the remainder of the half and were duly rewarded with two unanswered points to leave the half time score 1-5 apiece. Clonduff were fastest out of the blocks in the second half and scored two quick goals but Kilcoo again responded with three points but they just couldn’t ‘buy’ another score thanks mainly to great defending and very brave goalkeeping from Shannon O’Reilly. Clonduff added a further 2-1 to clinch the title.
Captain Clara Cowan accepted the cup on behalf of the team from Francie Rogan of the Ladies Co Board.
A great crowd gathered in Clonduff Clubrooms to welcome the girls home where they and the U14 girls were treated to the traditional championship final appearance – The girls, by winning two championship titles (in the one week) are Clonduff History-makers – Clonduff had never won a juvenile LGFA Championship title before this week. Well done to all involved! Keep up the good work – the future is bright in Clonduff for Ladies Gaelic Football!
