On Friday 17th June 2011 ‘Friends of Clonduff’ hosted ‘Thousand Pound Drop’ in the Clubrooms, based on the TV show ‘Million Pound Drop’ presented by Clonduff’s Golden Girl Orla Maginn. One Thousand pounds had been transported from a secret location to the clubrooms on Friday evening monitored by the security team of Senior Players Ryan McShane (Hurling) and Neil Trainor (Football). In round 1 of the show the first contestants to take to the stage were Gary Haughian and Conor Óg O’Hagan – the boys battled through the first few rounds but unfortunately lost all their money on question 4!! In Round 2 Daragh Sherry and Karl O’Hagan put their heads together trying to win the jackpot, unfortunately for them they lost their money on question 2 when they were quizzed on Boxing. The night was well under way when family double act James and Ryan McConville took to the stage, they reached question 5 but got stuck on a Rose of Tralee question!! Next to the stage was P J McGreevy and Mark Brown, they turned out to be the most successful contestants of the evening, reaching question 7. The first lady to go under the spotlight was club treasurer Marie Walls assisting Aidan Brown on the question forum, the audience had high hopes for this duo considering Marie’s experience on the Scór quiz team, however they lost all their money.
Thank you to everyone who attended the event, and to those who helped with the preparations, including Shane Hanaway and Thomas Murnin who created the ‘Drop Boxes’ and Patrick Mackin (Mini Mac Disco Roadshow) who provided the music for the event. Orla Maginn, Sheenagh McConville, Niall Rafferty and Paul McShane who co-ordinated the event on behalf of the Social and Fundraising Committee. And a massive thank you to those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to prepare, in particular, our two Senior footballers Rory Grant and Shane O’Hagan deserve special recognition for providing the power point presentation and questions. Well done boys!! This was a very successful night hosted in co-ordination with members of all our senior teams; such was the success of this evening that it will return to the clubrooms at the end of the summer.
