A feature of the South Down Awards night is a presentation to a charity of choice. This year it was ‘The Michaela Foundation’ to help students ‘look after themselves’. The magnificent sum of £1,200 was presented by South Down Treasurer Philip O’Hare to the husband and brother of the late Michaela McAreavey (nee Harte) John McAreavey and Mark Harte – John outlined how the money would be spent.
The entertainment on the night was provided by Gene Fitzpatrick who had the packed house in stitches – and not an improper word the whole night!
