What a great night for Clonduff GAA Club in the first round of the 2015 Scór na nÓg competitions on home ground in St Patrick’s Primary School, Hilltown! Clonduff not only had competitors in every event but had two solo singers and two reciters and will have three teams in the Quiz later in the month involving almost 50 children! A big thank you to the children and their parents for representing Clonduff Club but also to the mentors who helped prepare the children and to our hard-working Cultural and Community Officer, Jimmie Cousins.
Apart from many of the youngsters making their stage debut, our Scór stalwart Eileen McCusker was making her debut as Ban an Tí and what a great job she did!
Many thanks to St Pat’s for facilitating the local round, and the Club members who helped steward the event, those who made/served teas, sandwiches, ran the tuckshop and helped clean up at the end of the evening. A big thank you also to South Down Board members who attended and the families and friends of all the participants filling the school hall to capacity and creating such a wonderful atmosphere.
It is important for the children and their parents to remember that Scór na nÓg is an U16 competition!
Clonduff had winners in Ceili Dancing, Leíruí and Set Dancing and they will progress to the South Down Final in St Mark’s High School, Warrenpoint on Sunday 23rd November at 5pm. Clonduff had runners up in Solo Singing (Kayleigh McPolin), Recitation (Brian McGreevy and Charlotte O’Hare), Instrumental Music and Ballad Group who will go to the Qualifier in Mayobridge along with runners up from the other two venues on Saturday 15th November at 4pm. Two more competitors from each discipline will be selected to progress to the South Down Final.
Well done everybody and best wishes for the next round.
