CLONDUFF GAA CLUB AND FEILE PEIL 2018

It’s not everyday Feile Peil comes to town – Down was one of the three host counties along with Louth and Meath. Clonduff boys hosted Laune Rangers, Co Kerry and the girls hosted New York girls.

This first image from Clonduff Park on Féile Sunday sums up the Spirit of Féile – a young lad from Graiguecullen GAA (Laois) helps an injured player from Ballinderry (Derry) off the field just after Ballinderry had defeated his team in the Div 5 semi final

A big thank you to National Féile Committee for giving us the opportunity of demonstrating to the whole country just what a great club/community we are! Clonduff hosted Div 1 quarter finals on Saturday afternoon and Div 5 and 9 Semi Finals and Finals on Sunday – we had teams from New York, Scotland Kerry, Derry, Leitrim, Kildare, Meath, Sligo, Longford, Cork, Fermanagh, Louth, Laois, Dublin, Waterford and of course Down playing in Clonduff Park over the weekend. Everybody was well fed and watered and hopefully, having won or lost they have taken away great memories of Féile 2018 in Clonduff Park!

Our own boys reached Div 1 Shield Final where they were defeated by Claregalway which had been founded by Clonduff and Down Great – Patsy O’Hagan (Bittersweet!) .The girls were controversially beaten in the quarter finals by a single point when what looked like a perfectly good goal was disallowed.

Many thanks and well done to Dermot Fitzpatrick and his team at the BBQ who literally cooked thousands of burgers and bacon butties over the Féile weekend; to Goretta, Noleen, Shane, Sarah and team who served thousands of cups of tea/coffee/sandwiches/cold drinks/ice pops etc, to Attracta and team who sold a thousand ice creams; our stewards/volunteers who ‘controlled’ thousands of people/cars/buses, etc; those who made thousands of sandwiches; our volunteers on pitch and security duties; bar staff; those who kept replenishing stocks wherever needed; PJ and his team of All Ireland raffle ticket sellers; Shane and Damien our Pitch coordinators and their helpers/runners; and then there was Paudie and Anita in the ‘Control Centre’ Paudie kept it all running smoothly and Anita relayed the results to Féile HQ.

There were lots of people who supplied equipment for the weekend and the run-up – walkie-talkies, the retro scoreboard for the top pitch, tractors, diggers, man power, ‘elbow grease’ etc, etc. Our own U14 players who gave us a lot to cheer about – and their families – those who hosted the boys and girls from Laune Rangers and New York Ladies, provided transport and/or cooking skills, stewarding, pre and post clean up – you were all absolutely amazing! If we’ve omitted someone we apologise in advance and do let us know – it’s hard to get our brains into normal gear again.
