It was an early start for Darren Gleeson and his clubmate Mark Gennery when they left Portroe in Co Tipperary on Saturday morning to arrive in Clonduff Park for 11am to facilitate the second annual Sean Cairns Memorial Training Camp. Darren is the holder of 2 All Ireland titles, 6 Munster titles, 1 National Hurling League and 1 All Star was goal keeper for Tipperary from 2008-2017.
First group up for the day was the U6/U8 who had a really fun-filled session with Darren, Mark and their regular coach Shane Quinn. They finished off their session by taking shots at Darren in goals – quite a number of the youngsters scored against him too!
Then it was the turn of the Senior Camogs who had already completed a training session on Saturday morning to be put through a very high-intensity session but there was no flagging and the session with the Senior Hurlers in the third session of the day was very similar. Lots of useful tips and advice were passed on to the Camogs and the Hurlers.
The final group of the day to be put through their paces was the U10/12/13 – the U10s had taken part in Atticall Tournament in the morning. They finished their session by dividing into 4 teams (2xP6 and under and 2xP7 and above).
Darren and Mark signed jerseys and hurls for the youngsters and were then presented with commemorative jerseys by Chairman of the Club Padraig Matthews on behalf of the team sponsors Leo and Lorraine Bloomfield and thanked them sincerely for the great experience they had given the Clonduff players young and not so young. The Cairns Family also presented gifts to them.
