Clonduff Hurlers, past and present created a novel way of putting the Christmas excesses behind them on Saturday evening 28th December 2019. It was Under 30s v Over 30s (indeed many of them were more than a decade older than that).
The Under 30s were mainly comprised of the current Senior team plus some lads who played right up to Minor level but have concentrated on the large ball game since. The Over 30s had quite a number of players that won Clonduff’s first ever Junior Championship in 1997 supplemented by some of the current Senior squad – indeed they resurrected the jerseys worn on that occasion 22 years ago!
What the Old Fellas lacked in physical ability they made up with the sort of skills you never lose – mental agility and guile! For example – playing both halves in the same direction with the strong wind at their backs, maintaining that it was good pre-season training for the young fellas!
The game was expertly handled by former player and coach Alistair McGilligan and the Young Fellas may just have edged ahead to take the bragging rights. They finished off the evening in the Clubrooms with food and refreshments before heading on to the Camogie ‘Crimbo Bingo’ fundraiser in the INF Hall.
