As there were over 30 boys attending U13 Football in 2022, a decision was made to enter two teams – Gaels and Ógs with Gaels playing in Div 1 and the Ógs who are a Development team playing in Division 4.
Going into the last games of the season on Tuesday 14th June both Clonduff teams were right in contention – the Ógs won their game to go top with a prospective game v Burren Development team in two days’ time.
The Gaels played Burren on Tuesday in Clonduff Park and what a ding-dong battle it was – when the two met in the first round of League games Burren were runaway winners but on 14th June the game was so close it was so difficult to separate them but Clonduff, who had led for much of the game, dug deep and held on for the win and were presented with the James McCartan Trophy amid great scenes of joy – this age group (formerly U14) hadn’t won a League title for many, many years.
The stage was set for a double if Clonduff Ógs could repeat the feat two days later – however, they didn’t have to play that game! Burren Ógs got beaten in their game on Tuesday night and left the Young Yellas in an unassailable position!
Massive well done to both teams and their mentors.
The mentors involved with both teams are: Padraig Matthews. Stevie Branagan, Ciarán McLogan, Conall Gribben, Paul Maginn, Steve Gilbey, Michael Murtagh, Damian Smyth and Ciarán Crosbie.
