Wednesday 7th February 2024 was a fantastic day for hurling as St Mark’s hosted Section B of the U16 Noone Cup.
Down had three local secondary schools participating with teams from St Mark’s, St Patrick’s Banbridge and St Malachy’s Castlewellan, all showing that the future of hurling in Down is bright.
St Mark’s and St Malachy’s qualified from the group and have now progressed to the Ulster semi-finals. The St Mark’s team was backboned by 10 Clonduff lads! and the games were refereed by Clonduff referee Paddy Branagan.
The standard of hurling was similar to what you would normally see reserved for the hallowed turf of Croke Park. Well done to all players and coaches involved in today’s blitz. Many thanks to our local referee Paddy Brannigan for officiating all the games.
Clonduff lads on the panel – Thomas Kenny (22), Jimmy Haughey (12), Brendan Quinn (1), John Joe Boyle (11), Dylan McGivern (14), Shea Murray (7), Niall Murtagh (8), McKenzie Sheffield (19); Missing from the photo Eddie Clancy, Shea Morgan.
Best wishes for the next two games lads and mentors!
