CONNOR McCONVILLE PS TOURNAMENT 2024

A fantastic festival of football took place on Wednesday 5th June in Clonduff Park, Hilltown for the Connor McConville Gaelic Football Tournament.

Almost 250 children from the primary schools around South Down enjoyed the occasion in great spirit and fun, playing Gaelic football to a very high standard.

A large number of parents and supporters turned out to cheer on the young players.

The competition was played in three groups and eight teams progressed to the quarter finals. In the semi-finals Mayobridge Primary School overcame St Bronagh’s PS Rostrevor, while St Malachy’s PS Kilcoo defeated Annaclone PS. St Patrick’s PS Mayobridge played Kilcoo in an exciting final, played to a very high standard with St Malachy’s PS Kilcoo as winners.

Mrs Geraldine Smith, Principal of St Patrick’s PS thanked all those who had worked so hard to make the day such a success, this included the McConville family, Ms Maeve McNeill, Jimmie Cousins, all the schools that took part, the referees Alan Grant, Colm Gribben and Sean Christie, along with their assistant’s Anthony Grimes, Leo Sweeney and Danny McLogan.

Before the presentations Jimmie Cousins spoke on behalf of the McConville family, thanking all those who helped behind the scenes to create a well organised and highly respected event in the school calendar. With a special mention to Ms McNeill and all in St Patrick’s PS for their continued hard work and support of the Connor McConville Tournament.

Jimmie recognised the help provided by all the volunteers in preparation for the Tournament, setting up pitches, providing refreshments throughout the day as well as the volunteers on shop duty.

Michaella O’Hagan presented runner up medals to St Patrick’s PS Mayobridge before presenting the Connor McConville Cup and trophies to St Malachy’s PS Kilcoo. A fantastic day in Clonduff Park.
