ALL IRELAND RECOGNTION FOR HELEN

Helen accepting her award from out-going President of the Camogie Association Hilda Breslin

On Saturday evening, 6th April 2024 at the Camogie Congress Banquet Dinner, Helen McAleavey from Clonduff GAC/Shamrock Camogie was presented with the distinguished Síghle Nic an Ultaigh Award.

Helen has served the Camogie Association in her many administration roles in an exemplary manner over a long number of years. Helen always demonstrates a huge passion with wholehearted commitment for Camogie from club to national level. She is a long serving member of Newry Shamrocks Camogie Club as well as a member of Clonduff GAA Club and is currently still heavily involved in the running of the Shamrocks Club. She is always available to help out in any way she can in any Camogie capacity for any club or county. No task is too big for Helen and she is often spotted standing at a gate scanning tickets or in the kitchen making tea.

Helen served as Down Chairperson and Secretary. She also served as Chairperson of the Transfers, Hearing and Disciplinary Committee when first introduced. She returned to the role of Chairperson for a second term and provided the essential leadership for clubs and players during the recent pandemic during which Down won the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship in 2020 and progressed to the senior ranks. Helen was also a selector on the Down Management Team that guided Down to two Ulster Junior Titles in 1988 and 1989.

Helen’s great knowledge and experience has been a wonderful asset to Camogie. She has a great talent for evaluating situations and making decisions in the best interest of Camogie.

Congratulations Helen and very well deserved – we in Clonduff are honoured to county you among our members.
