CLONDUFF BOYS AGAIN WIN AN RIOCHT P5 INDOOR TOURNAMENT 2012

Congratulations to the young boys of St Patrick’s and St Paul’s Primary Schools who retained the An Riocht P5 Age indoor 5-a-side title for the third year in a row.. The tournament was played on Sunday morning 18th November. The boys are pictured outside the An Riocht gates on their way home with the trophy.
They played An Riocht, Drumgath and Bryansford in the group stage and were in a different class. Making light work of all the opposing teams they won all their games to reach the semi final where they again played Drumgath with the same result as before. This set up a final meeting with Mayobridge. This, as expected in the final, was a tight game. Having fallen behind from two lobbed goals they showed great composure and character to reply in kind and went on to win by 2 points, securing the title for the third year in a row.
Clonduff had outstanding performances throughout the whole team, dominating all sectors. In particular, Luke Fitzpatrick and Ronan Matthews when called upon were steady and assured with Shane Close offering vital cover along with his powerful attack play. Up front Shea Morgan showed his quality taking some fine scores and with Joey O’Hare, Dan Rafferty and Oisin Login showing fierce hunger against some strong opposition, the platform was set for a positive outcome. Patrick Cowan, led from the back and controlled play from the start, and scored with both feet at will – great skill at this level. Shea Morgan and Patrick Cowan lifted the silverware on behalf of a deserving Clonduff team and in so doing made it 3three in a row of famous victories for the Yellas in this prestigious Mournes Blitz – the only one of it’s kind locally.
Thank You An Riocht for organising and inviting us each year!
