Clonduff Gaels celebrated the end of a very successful year in Ceannarás Chluain Daimh on Saturday 5th December 2009. This is an experimental date – the event usually takes place in March of the following year – some people in the Club felt it should take place at the end of the season and by all accounts it was a very wise decision.
Before the evening began Nickey Brennan took the opportunity to visit Club Secretary Anita Brannigan and then called into Fintan and Margaret Mussen, all of whom were unable to attend.
Fir an tí for the evening was Francis Quinn and in true ‘Frankie Style’ he put on a great show.

In his address Nickey Brennan spoke about the importance of the club, citing his proudest day during his presidential reign as the day he presented the All Ireland Junior Club Hurling trophy to his own club. In commending Clonduff he praised the amount of Gaelic activity on offer, their model of integration, their success in the Club Maíth Scheme and administrative structures in general, the importance of communication and the value of the Club website.
A novel part of the evening was the Birthday celebrations – in trawling the Internet, the Clonduff folk discovered that Nickey’s birthday had been on Thursday and organised a cake for him. It then transpired that a number of other attendees also had a birthday in the past week and they were gathered together for a group photograph but the shy boy on the night was the Senior Hurling manager Gerry Coughlin who failed to admit that it was also his birthday. So Happy Birthday Nickey, Gerry, Francis, Ciara, Jenny and Mick!
