CLONDUFF DELEGATES AT NATIONAL YOUTH FORUM 2010

Niomhi Murray and Katherine Milligan were among the 9-strong Down youth delegation that travelled to Croke Park on Saturday 20th February 2010 for the National Youth Forum which was attended by some 300 young people aged 16-20 years from throughout the country. The young people were transported to and from the event and were accompanied by County Youth Officer, Sean McCashin. Christy Cooney, the National President of the GAA address the young people and was in attendance throughout the day for the workshops and discussion groups.
The three priorities for the forum were,
1. To bring together the broadest representation of members aged 16-20 from around the Association to share their stories, idea and ambitions for our clubs and the GAA of the future.
2. To discover what they believe to be the best practices, strengths and resources of the GAA in order to understand the positive core on which the GAA has been built as seen and experienced by the young attendees
3 To collectively imagine and envision the best possible future for the GAA in terms of:
– More enjoyable experience playing and preparing for our games
– The role of our clubs in our community
– Our games as an event, a place to go, an occasion – at county and club level
– How to make the best of technology and communications
– Enjoying being involved in the GAA as a volunteer in any role
– Making our club and the Association more attractive to those currently involved
– Building the reputation and brand of the GAA
– Our games Internationally
Niomhi and Katherine (2nd and 3rd from left) had a great day out and feel they learned a lot some of which they hope they can help implement in Clonduff. They enjoyed the
experience and camaraderie and built up a good contact network.
