Eight x U15 teams from across the county converged on Pairc Chluain Daimh on Sunday morning (4th April) and competed in 2 Groups of 4 with their eyes set on the Official Down GAA Div 1 County Feile title.
Clonduff were in Group 1 with Burren GAA, Bredagh GAC and Liatroim Fontenoys; Group 2 consisted of Carryduff GAC, Mayobridge GAC, An Ríocht Gaa and Ballyholland Harps GAC – Clonduff and Carryduff won all their games and topped their respective groups; Liatroim and Mayobridge were runners up in their groups setting up a semi final with the winner from the other group – Clonduff v Mayobridge and Carryduff v Liatroim.
In SF 1 Clonduff had a narrow victory (2 points) over Mayobridge; Liatroim emerged victors from their SF to set up a mouth-watering final – Clonduff had defeated them by a single point in the group games.
In the final, Clonduff led 0-4 to 0-1 at the break, nothing much between them. In the second half Clonduff managed to tag on a couple of points and then a well-taken goal and they looked to be home and dry with the score at 1-7 to 0-2; but back roared the Liatroim Fontenoys with a goal followed by a point. But The Yellas had done enough to secure the title and a trip to the All Ireland Finals in Derry at the end of June.
Maith sibh a bhuachaillí!
Down Great, Benny Coulter introduced the presentation and invited Clonduff Captain Daniel Gribben to accept the Cup from another Down Great, Ambrose Rogers, both of whom are doing sterling work around the schools in the the county!
Get well soon to young Ronan Green who sustained an injury towards the end of the final! We hope to see you back on the field of play again very soon Ronan!
