CLONDUFF LADS ARE ULSTER COMMUNITY GAMES CHAMPS 2011

On Saturday 25th June Clonduff 9½ footballers made the long journey to Templemore Complex, Derry as Down representatives (they defeated Mayobridge in Down Final) in the Ulster Community Games Finals. In the Semi Final, first up for Clonduff was a Cavan team , who came into the game as favourites for the title – their team was made up of boys from five different clubs in the Cavan area. This was a tough game with Cavan leading the Down Champions by 2 points at half time. The second half started slowly for Clonduff who found themselves eight points down before they began a major fight-back. Clonduff took the lead with three minutes to go. Young Padraig Clancy scored the point that put Clonduff into the lead shortly followed by a goal from Eamon Brown and another point from Shane Parr to give the young Yellas a five point cushion at the end of the game. In the final saw Down facing Cullyhanna the Armagh Champions, Cullyhanna scored the first point but soon the Clonduff boys dominated the game leading by 4-2 to 0-2 in the first half. The second half saw the Armagh boys fighting back but to no avail – Clonduff were just too strong for them. Final score Clonduff 6-4 Cullyhanna 0-8.
The Clonduff boys will represent Ulster in the All Ireland Finals to be held in Athlone over the weekend 12th-14th August.
