On Sunday 14th July 2019 – right in the middle of the holiday period over 100 youngsters and their parents and other family members converged on a brilliantly sunny Clonduff Park for the first Clonduff Juvenile Football League for many years.
The U6s concentrated on rotational skill sets and played in ‘County’ teams Tyrone, Roscommon, Kerry and Cork. Tyrone were the overall winners.
The U8s also did skills development finishing with mini games. The teams were Mayo, Dublin, Meath and Donegal. Mayo won this section after a Stewards Enquiry where the mentors were required to ‘race’ it out for the decision.
There was big rivalry among the U10s who normally play on the same team were playing against their best buddies. The teams were Down, Dublin, Mayo and played three intense games of highly developed skills. The focus was on rotating positions so that each player got plenty of game time and touches of the ball in different areas of the pitch.
Following a good 90 minutes of activity all the children were treated to a snack and a drink.
A big thank you to all the mentors, coordinators, parents and of course the players. It was the sort of morning the youngsters and the adults were loath to leave the club such was the craic, the camaraderie and sense of belonging!
