After struggling in the early part of the League, Clonduff Senior Ladies got it together in the latter half of the season under the management of Robert (Dinny) Wilson and Kieran Kelly, with Maria Wilson acting as administrator and Female Liaison Officer.
Having played in the Junior Championship in 2023, they somehow found themselves in the Intermediate Championship in 2024. This was not to their liking but in true Clonduff style they decided to give it a go. Their first group game was at home to Carryduff B team – Clonduff had a facile win. Next up was their perennial ‘bug-bear’ team Dundrum in Kielty Park.
The game was played in glorious sunshine on Saturday 31st August 2024. The home team got off to a good start and it looked like it would follow the established pattern. But not for this bunch of girls! Following a goal by the home side to put them 7 up, ‘The Yellas’ lifted their heads and their performance and trailed at the break by a single point – 1-8 to 0-10. In the second half, Dundrum was held to single point with Clonduff adding six of their own to run out 4 point winners and top their group, securing their place in the Intermediate Semi Final. Final Score – Dundrum 1-9 Clonduff 0-16
This game was ‘Teamwork’ at it’s best with every player contributing to the result but it would be remiss not to single out Aoife McCusker in goals who had an outstanding second half bring off an number of saves to keep Clonduff ahead once they got there!
Well done players and management. Onwards and Upwards!
