CLONDUFF U12 LGFA RETAIN THEIR OWN BLITZ TITLE IN 2019
CLONDUFF U12 LGFA TOURNAMENT 2019
Clonduff Gaels retain the Cup!
With some very bad weather conditions, the tournament on Sunday 22nd September 2019 went ahead with 10 teams travelling from as far as Belfast and what a great display of football from all the teams.
With 10 teams split into 2 groups all girls where guaranteed plenty of football.
Clonduff Ógs played very well together as a team and progressed to the Shield semi-final. It was an excellent game against Cumann Pheadar Naofa (Warrenpoint) with the girls showing great determination. After full time both teams were level and an additional 3 mins had to be played. The Ógs narrowly missed out on a place in the final by two points. This was a young group of girls in their first year at U12 and they showed great spirit and teamwork. Well done girls!
Clonduff Gaels won all their group games leaving them a guaranteed place in the semi-final of the Cup. Following the quarter-finals they met a strong Castlewellan side in the semi-final. The Clonduff girls had a slow start with Castlewellan getting the first score of the game but they gathered themselves and came back fighting to win well and secure their place in the final.
The Gaels had a tough game ahead of them in the final against St Galls who had also won all their group games. It was a tight match but the Gaels had the strength and determination to win carried them through by 3 points.
Every girl in the Clonduff panel played so well today and we are so proud of them.
Massive thanks to all parents for their hard work in the kitchen and cleaning up and also their wonderful support.
Thanks also to Anita Brannigan, Damien Fearon, Paul MConville and Karen Rice for their help with registration and organisation of groups and finals.
Thanks to our referees Niall Rafferty, Leanne McAleavey, Plunkett McConville and Ellen Shields; massive thanks to very bust shopkeepers Goretta and Noleen assisted my Lorraine and Leo.
The biggest thanks of the day is to the the eight visiting teams and the amazing group of Clonduff U12 girls (29 of them playing in two teams) whose attitude and dedication is a credit to themselves, their families and particularly Clonduff Club!
