Many congratulations to the 20 youngsters who participated in the Scór na nÓg Table Quiz in their home club on Friday night. There were 17 teams from across South and East Down competing for their Divisional titles and the right to compete in the new-format County Final on Sunday in St Patrick’s College Banbridge commencing at 5pm.
The Clonduff youngsters represented Clonduff Football, Handball, Hurling, Camogie and Ladies Football. Every one of them acquitted themselves excellently with the P7 team finishing mid-table and making a great attempt to answer the question asked ‘As Gaeilge’ which required the answer to also be in Irish. A big word of thanks to Ruby Binks, who earlier in the month participated in the Ballad Group, filled a vacancy on the night as one of the members could not attend.
Clonduff Football finished overall runner-up with the team representing Clonduff Ladies narrowly missing out. Aghaderg narrowly won the South Down title. Kilcoo and Drumaness were the top finishing teams from East Down. However, the teams going to the County Final on Sunday are Aghaderg, Clonduff Football, Kilcoo and Mayobridge Football (who finished on the same points as Kilcoo).
A lovely feature of the evening was the Clonduff Cultural Officer Thomas (Tooter) Murnin giving every participant a free raffle ticket for two boxes of sweets which he sponsored – won by Ellen Shields Clonduff and Micheál McNulty Aghaderg!
Many thanks to the Clonduff parents for providing and serving the magnificent spread for the supper – could have fed the whole county! And to those who helped clean up after (there’s another function in the Clubrooms on Saturday night).
Question Master (and setter) was James Magennis (Ballykinlar), Markers Darren Rooney (Mayobridge) and Gerard Keenan (Mayobridge/Co Scór Committee), Scorekeeper Conail McNally (Glenn/Ballyvarley), Stewards/Collectors Tommy Kelly (Clonduff/South Down Board), PJ Quinn (Saval/South Down Board), Kevin Brennan (Drumaness/Co Scór Committee), Anita Brannigan (Co Scór Secretary/Clonduff) and Thomas Murnin (Clonduff Cultural Officer) – many thanks everyone.
All of our children acquitted themselves brilliantly and are eligible to participate again next year – ‘Quiz Club’ may be finished for the year but please encourage the youngsters to remain in the ‘Quizzing Groove’.
