Clonduff had four representatives on this fact-finding visit – Dermot O’Hagan, Development Officer (extreme left back row), Brendan Murray, Chairperson (back, centre), Fintan Mussen and Martin Farnon (back row right)
As a follow up to the meeting with Newry & Mourne Councillors and officials at the end of January, Hilltown Community Association organised a visit to two purpose-built community centres last week. Representatives from six Clonduff groups and two Crotlieve Councillors attended. The first visit was to The Torrent Complex at Donnaghmore and the second to the Community Centre at Galbally.
During the visits they heard how the local GAA and community groups had worked closely together to identify need, develop a vision for the whole community, draw down funds and provide a building for community use – including areas for sports, community gym, pre-schools, music & arts, meetings, functions, social clubs and much more.
The next step is to invite members of the public and community groups in Hilltown & Cabra to give their views on what facilities they want or need in Hilltown. They will be rolling out a survey in the coming weeks. For more information, or to offer your assistance phone 028 4063 8077 (9am-2pm Tues & Wed) or email Hilltowncommunity@gmail.com
Thank you to County Down Rural Community Network for helping to organise and fund the study visit.
