A big crowd of Down Gaels gathered in Clonduff Clubrooms on Tuesday 6th April to celebrate in song, dance, music and craic the talent of the county’s Senior, Juvenile and Aspiring Scór participants in a relaxed informal atmosphere. The function was attended by Seamus Walsh (Co Chairperson), William Smith (Co Vice Chairperson) and that grand man of Down GAA and great Scór supporter, Paddy McFlynn. Fear an Ti for the evening was one of the bright young faces of the Down Culture and Language Committee James White; Stage Manager was Gerard Keenan and Anita Brannigan was the ‘Act Co-ordinator’.
Proceedings got under way at 8 30 pm with Clonduff’s Christina McConville singing Amhran na bhFiann, followed by the Murray Family setting the tone for the rest of the evening for the acts from Saul, Rostrevor, Warrenpoint (current All Ireland Readóirí Set Dancing Champions), Teconnaught, Mayobridge, Annaclone, Tullylish, Glenn and of course the homeside, Clonduff who, in addition to the Murray Family and Christina, strutted their stuff in the Novelty Act, Ballad Group, Recitation (Sean Downey) and Set Dancing.
The Down Cultural Committee sincerely thanked Clonduff not only for the use of their facilities but also for the level of hospitality shown towards guests throughout the evening. A Special word of thanks also to all those who took part during the celebration, without the support of those Clubs represented on the evening, the event could not have taken place. Fear An Tí James concluded by wishing Áíne Brolly from the Breadgh club every success in the forth coming All Ireland final in Killarney on 24th April.
Clonduff provided a delightful hot and cold buffet supper, following which, Joseph Farrell involved all and sundry in Sets-Ceíli which concluded about 12 30 am
