FIONNUALA ‘GUESTS’ AT IRISH NEWS ULSTER VOLUNTEER CONFERENCE 2013

The Panellists in ‘The Club Gathering’ Panel Discussion – Gemma Begley (Tyrone Ladies Football), Fionnuala Carr (Down Camogie), Neil McManus (Antrim Hurling), Enda Muldoon (Derry Football), Tony Scullion (Derry Football & Hurling). The MC for the day was BBC’s Austin O’Callaghan
Our own Fionnuala Carr was one of the celebrity panellists in the ‘Club Together’ themed Volunteer Conference in The Glenavon House Hotel Cookstown, Co Tyrone – Fionnuala did us all proud – as she will in ‘Strictly’ next week!
‘Club Together’ is a drive by the various Boards – Hurling/Football, Camogie, Ladies Football, together with Handball and Rounders – to integrate/unify at County, Provincial and National Level in the near future under the banner of ‘Name GAA Club’ – it has been happening in Clonduff for quite a number of years.
There were a number of informative workshops including Volunteering, Heritage, Health & Well Being, Social Media, Culture and Fundraising.
Local MLA John McCallister was one of the Guest Speakers, joining people like Aogan Ó Fearghaill (Presidential Candidate), Liam O’Neill (Uachtarán CLG), Aileen Lawlor (Uachtarán Camógaíocht) Danny Murphy (Secretary Ulster GAA), Jim Eastwood (The Apprentice) and Martin McAviney (Uachtarán Ulster GAA)
Aileen summed up the value of our volunteers with the profound statement ‘GAA volunteers are not paid, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless’!
