FRIENDS OF CLONDUFF CARNIVAL 2023

After an absence of 15 years Clonduff Carnival was resurrected by an enthusiastic bunch of individuals who brought the whole Clonduff Community behind them.

The idea for the Carnival was first mooted by Bernard Branagan and despite some misgivings and uncertainties along the way, it was a highly successful and lucrative weekend towards the future development of Clonduff Club facilities. Bernard was ably assisted by Community Officer Shauna Carvill who garnered the volunteers who became known as ‘The Visibilites’ over the course of the weekend due to the hi-viz vests they wore!

The programme started on Thursday 6th July with the Teen Disco, Friday 7th was Country & Western Night with Jimmy Buckley and our own Jordan and Kayleigh McPolin; Saturday afternoon was the Mini Disco for the Primary School children and how they just loved being in ‘The Big Tent’. Saturday night saw the biggest crowd who enjoyed the music of ‘More Power to You Elbow’ (who said they played Clonduff Carnival 25 years ago) and ‘All Folk’d Up’. Sunday morning/afternoon also saw the resurrection of Clonduff Golf Classic (more about that later). The Finale was the most fun night of the programme with ‘Boley Bingo’ presented DJ Magiggs (a long way from traditional Bingo) followed by Stephen Rafferty.

It was such a weekend of positivity and camaraderie – and before the marquee came down people had started planning next year’s event!

It took a lot of hard work, initiative, coordination and cooperation for it to ‘fall into place’ but it was certainly so worthwhile. A great deal of thanks is owed to a great number of people without whose input it would never have materialised! Go raibh mile maith agaibh!
