HEARTBREAK FOR CLONDUFF IN LGFA JUNIOR SEMI FINAL 2023

The spirit was good in the camp prior to the game on Saturday 23rd September. Annaclone had home advantage on a very stormy evening, they won the toss and opted to play with the wind in the first half.

The Clonduff Ladies, like the Premier Reserves slightly earlier in the afternoon, found the conditions very difficult and scored hard to come by. They trailed at the break 1-10 to 0-2 (11 points).

They started the second half in fine form with two goals – in fact, they held Annaclone scoreless throughout the half and drew the game 2-7 to 1-10 and indeed had opportunities to win it. The game went to extra time with both teams scoring 1 point each in the first half. Clonduff took the lead for the first time in the second half of extra time but unfortunately they couldn’t hold on to it as one of the players was, harshly red carded for what looked like a 50/50 challenge. Annaclone got two unanswered points to win by a single point 1-13 to 2-9.

The girls will not contest the Junior B Final, not exactly what they were looking for but it will be a stepping stone to next season.
