Clonduff Minor Ladies played their last league game on 20th July 2023 in what is termed ‘The Summer League’ – they finished top of the group had to have a play-off with second placed team Mayobridge as they were equal on points. Score difference doesn’t count at this level.
They didn’t have a competitive game until their one and only championship outing on 8th October and then had to wait again for another month as Mayobridge were still involved in championship! On 5th November the final of ‘The Summer League’ was played!
It was a great game of football played in Mayobridge (neutral ground waterlogged). Clonduff trailed by 2 points at the break and put in a storming second half to go into a 3-point lead which they held right to the dying moments of the game when Mayobridge scored a goal to leave it a draw Mayobridge 2-8 Clonduff 1-11. In extra time Clonduff took the lead with 2 points but the match fitness of the girls in blue began to tell and they had a 4-point lead after the first period of extra time. Clonduff had a tremendous defensive display in the second half hold the home side scoreless but unfortunately were only able to add a point and the all important goal eluded them with the packed Mayobridge half. Final score Mayobridge 3-11 Clonduff 1-14.
Well done to the team and their mentors Damien Henning, Shereen Lyness and Jackie Gilbey.
