MOSS KEANE RIP – THE CLONDUFF CONNECTION

The death has been announced on 5th Oct 2010 of former Irish Rugby International, Moss Keane who at the age of 62 lost the fight with Cancer.
Moss Keane was born in Curnow County Kerry, he played minor, U 21 and Junior County football for Kerry before turning to Rugby at the age of 21 – he was the first GAA player to do so after the Ban was lifted. It was during his GAA career that he won three Sigerson cup medals with University College Cork and one of those was won in Clonduff Park!
It was in 1969 and Queens University in Belfast were due to host the Sigerson weekend but because of ‘The Troubles’ in Northern Ireland the Southern Universities were reluctant to travel (and stay overnight) in Belfast. Clonduff were delighted to help, and the games were actually played in Clonduff Park!
Moss Keane was full back and captain of that winning UCC team in 1969. Thus Moss Keane came to play in Clonduff Park. (Contributed by Jerry Quinn)
