PEÁRCE BRANAGAN MEMORIAL POC FADA 2023

The participants before the trek up the mountain

The Club hosted the annual Peárce Branagan Memorial Poc Fada on the Hen Mountain on Saturday afternoon. The sun came out to greet everyone as they prepared for an afternoon of great Craic on The Mountain. As is tradition, Lorcan Branagan got proceedings underway with the first Poc as our Senior Men made their way up the Mountain to the Top Rock. Our Juveniles then followed behind with some excellent display of Striking that would have made Cuchulainn envious.

Our Juveniles spotted na sliothair for our Senior Men as they struck off the Top Rock. The wind was a favourable factor this year with three of our Senior men having the distinction of achieving the distance from top rock to lower rock in an impressive one Poc!

It was then down to the Lower Rock where all participants Struck Off for the descent down the Mountain. Everyone was aiming for that Lucky bounce of the sliotar to get them a bit closer to the End Line.

It was a close competition throughout, requiring a Poc Off to decide the eventual winner in two of the categories. It was a successful afternoon in the McConville household with Oisin McConville winning the Primary School boys competition with 22 strikes and Niamh McConville winning the Girls competition with 16 strikes. Eoghan Rooney took the title for Secondary School Boys with 17 Strikes.

Our Senior men’s competition saw a return to form of one of our previous Champions with John Murphy lifting the Peárce Branagan Memorial Cup with 16 strikes.

It was a Great afternoon of fun and enjoyment and we look forward to next year and a return to the Mountain.
