PLAQUE UNVEILED IN MEMORY OF JERRY QUINN RIP – 2019

The late Jerry Quinn was a great servant of the GAA at Club, County, Provincial and National level. Jerry worked tirelessly to promote all that was good in the GAA for almost 50 years. He was GAA Correspondent with County Down Outlook and sometime contributor to The Irish News and various other newspapers. He was the recipient of The McNamee Award on two occasions along with that other Clonduff stalwart Fintan Mussen – in 1988 ‘Sceál Chluain Daimh’ (The Clonduff Story Part I) which documented the life and times of Clonduff GAA Club from its inception in 1887. Prior to that in 1985 Jerry and Fintan were part of the Down Communications sub-committee that picked up the McNamee Award for the Down Year Book. He was a member of the prestigious GAA Writers Association and held the position of Chair for a year.
Jerry held numerous roles in his native Clonduff both in administration and team management at all levels. He also held various administrative roles in South Down and was elected Chairman of the County Board for a time. He had a passionate devotion to the photographic and written media concerning his beloved GAA. Jerry passed away very suddenly on 5th December 2012.
Down County Board have mounted a permanent photographic exhibition of Down GAA from the 1960s onwards – many of the photographs are Jerry’s work which have been kindly donated by his family.
Current Down Chairman Sean Rooney unveiled a Memorial Plaque in Jerry’s honour on Thursday 25th April in Pairc Esler where the exhibition was on view.
The unveiling was attended by Jerry’s wife Maura, their children Shane, Francis, Ursula and Niall, their spouses and children and other family members
