SENIOR COUNTY SEMI FINAL 2017

The Senior Camogs travelled over to Mayobridge to take on the old enemy Liatroim in the semi-final of the championship on Saturday evening 2nd September. They played with a strong wind in the first half and made the most of it. Straight from the throw in the girls took the game to Liatroim and were never behind, Paula Gribben was very accurate from placed balls and the forward line was on top in every position and went into a 0-5 to 0-02 lead before Karen Haughey won the race to a loose ball and sent it sailing over the line for the first goal; this was quickly followed by a goal from Sara Louise Carr who reacted quickest to a ball that came off the post and she sent the ball into the top corner of the Liatroim goal. The half time score was 2-6 to 0-5. The second half was much like the first – the girls put in a very workman like performance to keep the pressure on the opposition who were now playing with the wind and meant they had more possession than in the first half. However, the Clonduff defence stood firm and never let them through, the blocking, hooking and tackling was immense and they continuously frustrated Liatroim and it was only in the second minute of injury time that they scored their one and only goal. When Clonduff forward line got possession they made the most of it and took their scores when they got the chance. Sara Louise Carr broke free and raced towards the goal and finished with a lovely hand pass. Megan O’Reilly scored the fourth goal after a save rebounded to her and she made no mistake. Final score Clonduff 4-11 Leitrim 1-08. This was a great team performance and next up is Ballygalget who defeated Ballycran in the first semi-final earlier in the day. Ballygalget are a young skilful team and they will be very keen to secure a senior title. The final will be played on Saturday 16th September, venue and time to be confirmed.
