The Clonduff Senior Ladies met Ballymartin in the Intermediate C Championship Final in Dundrum on Saturday night. The elements were less than perfect with the wind akin to that of ‘gale force’. Clonduff, had to play against the wind in the first half. Ballymartin took advantage of the windy conditions and by half time were leading. Clonduff had a goal scoring chance initiated by Leona Killen but the wind had other ideas and took it wide. Una Fearon gpt the first score of the match for Clonduff over the bar which was followed by another after the first half water break by Orla Gribben from outfield. Thanks to Shannon O’Reilly’s acrobatic goal saving and agility she kept the Ballymartin goal scoring to just one, the one that got away as it was initially saved but lost.Half time score Clonduff 0-2 Ballymartin 1-9
The second half saw Clonduff play with the wind to their backs. The wind whipped up and along with the rain, made the conditions more difficult for the Yellas. However by the second water break the Clonduff ladies had brought the score line a little nearer as they had two lovely scores from Ella Beth Rooney and Onagh McClorey. After the second water break it was the turn of Captain Leanne McAleavey and Lauren Kane to provide scores for Clonduff.
The Ballymartin goalie tipped two beautiful goal scoring opportunities for the Yellas over the bar.
Clonduff put all the energy they had left into the rest of the game but it wasn’t to be. The first half had drained them. But they made sure Ballymartin didn’t enhance their first half score line keeping them at 1-9.
