ST COLMAN’S ARE HOGAN CUP WINNERS 2010

Congratulations to Cathal Murray and his band of warriors in St Colman’s – they picked up their seventh All Ireland title on Saturday afternoon (10th April) with a facile seven point win over St Brendan’s Killarney (Paul Galvin’s charges). In truth if the College had taken all their scores, the game could have been out of sight at half time, though they led 0-9 to 1-1. They moved up a gear in the second half and at one stage were eleven points up. St Brendan’s were awarded their second penalty (one in each half, both converted) and scored a great goal to put a gloss on the result. St Colman’s in turn could afford the luxury of missing a penalty though a goal was scored in the resulting goal mouth scramble. Final score: St Colman’s 1-18 St Brendan’s 3-5
Unfortunately, in the curtain raiser St Malachy’s were unable to hold on to the Finn Cup for the third year in a row and fell to Clonakilty Community School on a score of 0-11 to 0-8 but it’s no mean feat in winning two out of three All Ireland titles!
